Taming the Bad Boy

Rate this book
From up here on stage, I can see her. Even with her First Lady hair and Sunday school shoes, I can’t take my eyes off of her.

The music starts. I swing my hips to the thumping bass. Oh-so-slowly I slip one button through a hole, then another, then another. I ease the black silk from my shoulders and toss it right toward her.

I watch her pale glossy lips form a big ‘O’ before she catches it like a major league baller. The flashing lights blind me. Between beats I can see her blue eyes zeroed in below my waist.

I know what she wants. I give it to her. With a zip and a tug, the leather pants join the rest of my clothes. In my skin tight briefs, I dance just for her. With the last chord of the song the stage goes dark.

I know when the lights come up, another guy will be dancing in my place because this is my last time. I’m not doing this ever again. It’s too bad I didn’t get her name. I really liked that shirt. But not enough to go back and claim it.

If she wants me bad enough, she’ll have to find me.

He's a comedian that's done well for himself, but has a different woman in every city. Nothing is ever serious until he meets Daisy. Things really heat up between them, but she also has some baggage, she's a webmaster to a slew of sex sites and thinks all mean are hogs. You get to see the story develop between them as well as their feelings for each other. In the beginning I had my misgivings about the book, but by the end I was glad I finished it.

Daisy’s best friend was Nariand they were going to a gay bar . Daisy wanted to put her finger on gay mens tastes. Daisy had seen the worst of men in her profession and didn’t want one in her life. Taylor was daisy’s second best friend. Nari could get in any place in LA and that’s why Daisy had brought her. At the gay bar a couple of men asked if they could share their booth and Daisy said sure and ended up talking to Rafe too bad he was gay. Daisy ended up with rafe’s short as did a strip dance at his friend’s request. Rafe was not a daytime person , he could have been a vampire in another life. Rafe was a comedian and not gay. Daisy worked in the porn industry selling boobs and butt. But that had slowed down to. Nari’s parents bought her a condo that had a second bedroom and she invited daisy to move in. Her parents loved it as daisy gave off the chaperone vibe. Nari and daisy had went to a party and the host said he had bought this place working in the porn industry and Daisy soon became a self supporting adult. Daisy took Rafe’s shirt back to him and he took her out to breakfast. Than he offered to walk her to her car and she said ok but instead they went to his apartment. Rafe noticed she wore a light floral scent that lit up his insides. Rafe’s brother was gay bot Rafe. Daisy loved nari but she often carelessly brushed off her feelings calling her a fag hag knowing daisy really liked Rafe. When Rafe Daisy had a tingle go down her spine and a quiver in her belly. She hadn’t had sex in a long time. Even though Daisy couldn’t have Rafe, she wanted to be near him. He invited her to come to see him do his art and she went. Than Rafe’s brother Gabe came and asked her if the seats next to her were taken. Daisy thought Rafe was very funny. Than Daisy learned Rafe wasn’t gay when he got arrested. Rafe was sure he hadn't had sex with an underage girl, he usually stuck with waitresses and bar flies.
I couldn’t get into this book. It didn’t hold my attention and I tried a couple of times to restart reading it again and same thing no interest no connection. I am sure there are others that will love this book but this just wasn’t for me.

I had a hard time finishing this book. I look for characters that I can either relate with or that I grow an attachment to like friends. I did not like either of these characters for the first 60% of the book. Even after that, I was not terribly interested in their ending.

I will say though that this book touches on a topic I think more people need to acknowledge, pornography. I think the author did a wonderful job in expressing the negative affects it can have on people individually and in relationships. It isn't a topic that is discussed nearly enough.

I would have liked to see something that endeared me to either of the characters before the end of the book. Raphael was not a male lead that remotely held my interest for any reason, even after Daisy explained to him why he wasn't worth her time.

Overall, it was a difficult read for me personally because of the way that I like to connect to characters and storylines.

The story of Daisy and Rafael was ok, I did struggle a little to get through the book because I did not feel the chemestry between the two caracters, and they were doing too many stupid things withouth thinking of the consequences even though they are both in their thirties. I did not get a good feel for either of them I am sorry to say. Rafael sleeps with too many women, does not pay attention to what the women want and ends up with a statutory rape charge, a rape charge and the has sex with Daisy like they are in a porn. Daisy runs several sex web pages, makes a porn video, tries to make one that she would also stare in, and just generally they both make so many strange choises for two people who claim to be attracted to each other. Not my kind of book I am sad to say.

***ARC was provided to me by Net Galley and the Publisher for a fair and honest review***

Overall rating: 0/5 This book needs a trigger warning, Rafael rapes two women by the end of the story.

Heroine (Bronwen ‘Daisy’ Fletcher): 1/5 Daisy seems like an upstanding East Coast baby living in LA but runs several ‘adult viewing’ sites in her off hours. She’s a white girl with a Korean guy fetish.

Hero (Rafael ‘Rafe’ Augustine): 0/5 He's misogynistic and a rapist. Also he works as a comedian and was at one point a stripper.

Plot: 1/5 Daisy meets Rafael at a gay bar, so she assumes he’s gay. He does a strip tease show at the bar at the request of the bachelor party he’s with. Daisy ends up with his shirt and when she returns it she is confused why a gay man kissed her. Rafael then seduces a very new 18 year old at the wedding of his friend and ends up with a statutory rape charge. As he’s getting arrested Daisy’s only thought is ‘he’s not gay’. After acquitted, Daisy invites him over and Rafael oversteps and makes assumptions because of her line of work. He unintentionally rapes Daisy. She stops talking to him, gets a new job on a tv network as a script supervisor. Rafael is on one of the comedy shows she is responsible for. Will she let him back into her life?

Personal Review: Rafael escapes a statutory rape charge by a day, the girl turned 18 that morning. Yes she lied about her age and claimed to be 21 but that’s the least problematic part of this book. He then rapes Daisy and the reader has to live it through her eyes. All the confused and mixed emotions, she liked him but everything was moving too fast and was just too much for her. While she did not say ‘no’ she was throwing off clear signs that she was uncomfortable with what was happening. Then when Daisy doesn’t text him back (because she was processing the rape) he hooks up with a girl from Twitter. She also never says ‘no’ and this time you read it from Rafael’s perspective. It is no less horrifying to read his justifications for continuing.

Honestly the rest of the story doesn’t matter, you cannot justify an actual rapist to be the hero of a romance story and get the girl in the end. She did not ‘tame a bad boy’ she allowed her rapist to start a relationship with her.

Yes I did read the whole book and no I did not like any of it. Setting the rapes aside neither character is particularly likable and they do not have any chemistry together. This story could have been a fun mixed race couple story that started at a gay bar and followed them through the comedy competition show. Daisy didn’t have to run any ‘adult film’ sites and could have just worked at the tv network. Rafael could have still been a player but he didn’t need to have multiple rape charges brought against him. I honestly went into this book expecting to love it.

Daisy Fletcher goes for a night out. She has an interesting job. Raphael Augustine may have a job at making people laugh. I found that it was easier to picture Daisy doing her job than Raphael’s. My funny bone never got engaged, plus he gets into trouble and that seemed to bring things down.

I’ve come to like reading a story that’s being told in the first person. But there was one scene where Daisy got a little too descriptive about her friend. It was a case of TMI. I also didn’t need a constant reminder of Daisy’s friend and family’s ethnic background. We’re informed at the beginning of the book but the constant reminders are a little off-putting. It got to the point where I wanted to say, “I’ve got it, I’ve got it!”

The author has to give her readers some credit that they’ll remember something like a person’s ethnicity – especially when their language appears as part of a scene. It makes it difficult to want to continue because you start looking for the next time that word is going to appear. Plus your focus is taken off the main characters and looking for the next time Nari and her family appear.

There was so much going on here that I felt like I was going in circles trying to keep up with what was going on. We see a lot of world building for our main characters but seeing them try to build a relationship seemed to get a little lost. I never felt like they had any type of connection. Maybe you will see a connection that I never did. The connection I did see was that they are both in the entertainment business. It was more like reading two separate books at the same time. This is one book where it’s slow building and it made it hard to concentrate and wanting to turn the page.

In the end, no two people are going to see this book the same way. A lot of it is what your mind picks up on. You may find Raphael funny. You may find a young woman trying to find her way in a world where it’s constantly changing. In reading the title, I may have just set my expectations too high and that could be where my disappointment kicked in. That’s not to say that I wouldn’t give the author another try.

I was not compensated nor was I required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own.

Taming the Bad Boy was an interesting tale between a woman who has the job all men fantasize about and a guy who is a stand-up comic. Daisy and a friend decide to do some market research for Daisy’s occupation. She wants her line of work to be more inclusive for all lifestyles. When she meets a group of men in the club, she’s uncomfortable to find she was attracted one of them. There were small sizzling sparks between Daisy and Raphael, but Daisy misinterprets which gender he’s attracted to after a chance meeting in a gay bar. What ensues is a strangely intriguing tale that includes Daisy falling deeper and deeper into the world in which she works, ultimatums from friends, and a man who really should be a whole lot smarter about who he charms into his bed. There is a lot going on in this book. Daisy has her own life and Raphael has his own life. Occasionally, they overlap.

This is one of the few books that, while I was interested in the premise, the first few chapters did not engage me as well I had hoped they would. Once the ball started rolling though, I was on board the Daisy and Raphael crazy train for the duration. I enjoyed most of the interactions between Daisy and Raphael and loved the friendship between Daisy and her best friend, Nari. This story contains the making of an unconventional couple. Daisy and Raphael don’t jump right into a romance and are extremely flawed. In fact, they tie for who’s messed up more.

The author’s world building and character development was done well. We see a very different Daisy and a very different Raphael by the end of Taming the Bad Boy. Parts of the book were a bit slow but overall, the pacing of the book was perfect – not to fast not too slow. There are situations in this book that may be uncomfortable to some readers. Most of the book is written well and likeable. I found the story flowed well and was easy to read.

I am voluntarily writing this review for this book I received through Booksprouts arc

Daisy and her friend Nari were going to MJ club it was a gay men’s club and had seen many scenes. They were at the club when 3 men asked if they could join them at their table. Of course the ladies didn’t have a problem since the men were gay. One of the men got up to dance on one of the boxes his name was Rafe he stripped down to next to nothing. He threw his black shirt into the crowd and Daisy retrieved it before it hit the ground. As they were leaving the bouncer gave her a note from Rafe to call him. Rafe was a comedian but Daisy hadn’t her him right she thought he drew cartoons. Daisy called Raphael and he returned her call about his shirt that she had cleaned. Daisy was under the impression that Raphael was gay. Daisy work was a thing that Nari wanted her to quit
but, the money was too good to stop. Nari got her a job at a production company that produced reality TV. The show she worked on got her back seeing Raphael he was one of the contestants. He won the contest and was offered a program. Raphael told Daisy that he is not happy because they put him in the “Asian Box” Raphael is half Korean. Daisyhas her other business going really well. Raphael show takes off and Daisy was happy for him. Daisy found out some information that she really didn’t need to know about Raphael. Ups and downs and unusual circumstances.

Good romance rather unpredictable
I found the title well chosen because I wanted to slap Raphael, the hero at the beginning of the story as he takes so much time to react to his actions, or to think, but this story is also about the heroine Daisy who needs to master her life again, and it is him who helps her to overcome her relationship difficulties.
The whole thing is an introspection of Daisy about her life and the sex industry (she's webmaster of her porn enterprise). She needs to go a long way on male / female relationships, beyond the image given in pornographic films, and on her adaptation to ordinary life if she gives up her job as her best freind tries to help her do. When she meets Raphael she thinks he is gay, they have meetings that end in disasters and when finally they get closer, their night is far from memorable.
In short, the thread of the story is quite unpredictable.
The only annoying point is the big talk between Daisy and her best friend, who tend to slow down the story with the descriptions.

I struggled to get through this book. Rafe & Daisy didn't really have a lot of chemistry to start off with. I felt like she only liked him because he was Asian. Rafe was really crude and jumped from one bed to another with no thought to anything. Daisy was a mess. Who would think that it is ok to shoot a porno in their friends living room without permission. Then she goes from paying to have the prono shot, to actually being in the porno? but she has issues with being intimate with Rafe? I don't buy it. The writer also made sure to point out REPEATEDLY that Rafe & Nari were Asian/Korean. Most books will bring this up a few times yea, but this book had to point it out on every single page. I just didn't feel like this was a story I would want to read again, or would tell one of my friends to read.

Daisy is fed up of been hit on by men after all she knows from her job as a porn site manager that men are after only one thing. So when she and her friend want to go out for a drink they head to a gay bar as they figure they will be safe there. They are joined at their table by three men one of them is Rafe When Rafe gets up to dance he just about ends up naked Shortly after the girls leave and Daisy is surprised when the bouncer gives her a not from Rafe Seems that Rafe isn't gay at all and he is interested Can he convince Daisy that he wants more than meaningless sex Can he breach her walls You will need to read to see. I had problems connecting with Rafe and Daisy they are supposed to be in theor thirties but they both came across as childish

A very interesting, well-written page-turner that will hold your interest until the very end. The plot is well-developed, consistent, realistic, exciting. It will take you on a roller coaster of heart wrenching emotions, growing up, ups and downs, and other drama. The characters Daisy and Raphael balance each other perfectly – though it took them a while to figure it out. The chemistry between them is potent and undeniable. This is not a quick read and in my opinion it would have benefitted greatly if an epilogue was included.

This was a good book. I enjoyed the characters. The storyline was good and different. Daisy meets Rafael at a gay club. She is not looking to be hit on and this place was her safest bet. She automatically thinks Rafael is gay because of the club. Turns out, he definitely is not. Daisy is a porn webmaster and she feels like all guys are the same. Beasts looking for one thing. Rafael is a comedian and he has problems keeping his junk in his pants. They are an unlikely pair. It seems like nothing comes together for them. But they like each other. Can Daisy get over her stereotype of men? Can Rafael make a commitment without straying away?

I don't really know what I was expecting for this book but I wasn't really that much of a fan. I thought it would be a cool little read and it entertained me but there were just too many prejudices. I know the book talks about subjects which are controversial but I think that the author was trying too much. The timelines were bizarre, sometimes every day in a week was detailed and other times a whole week or month went by ... I don't really know what specifically didn't cut it for me in the book, i enjoyed the writing style but i think that Daisy was very naive and Raphael was a bit of a hot head... I hope I'll prefer some other of this authors books but it wasn't for me, sorry !

Hi Jolie, I LOVED the story. The twist and turns of wondering if he is or not gay, in Daisy's mind!! I laughed at the suspence at what Daisy would do, when she found out that Rafe was straight.
Writers have the most amazing mind for story telling.
THANK YOU, THANK YOU, for the great stories you bring to life in your books, for me the reader whom fantasizes about being right beside the strong women in your books, living their story throu them.

The main reason for low score is that I didn't feel any chemistry between the characters. The story itself was really complex and interesting. So different from any of the hundreds of romance novels I have read before. I kind of see that how in this story watching porn ruined the female lead's sex drive and made real life encounters so much more scarce and uncomfortable, it actually probably happens with reading romance novels also. This part of that book I really liked, it was like reading a realistic romance novel of sorts. But yeah...no chemistry between the characters that I could feel.

Daisy is a porn webmaster that sees sex all day , but yet seems to have intimacy problems of her own. Raphael is a comic that can't seem to stay out trouble due to his pants. Throughout the book there is a lot of cat and mouse between these two, but eventually they both straighten their lives out where they can finally be together as a couple.

I really enjoyed the characters in this story and I liked getting to know them.

I liked the author's writing style and she had a lovely way of describing things to bring the story to life too and making the characters genuine.

I thought personally that there was too much background being told and it spoilt the storyline as stopped the natural flow of the story. This is my only minor issue with the book though and it is still four stars from me for this one as overall I really enjoyed it!

Taming the Bad Boy should be called taming us. She caught his eye and then his shirt. She surprised him just as she surprised him. Both of them needed to understand the basics of a good relationship. I think he figured it out only because he did not need any more bad publicity. I think that hurt her more to hear about it after it happened. Both of them grew up because it became an issue of the heart.

A sexy, alluring story. The blurb definitely caught my interest. The story of Daisy and Rafe was alot of fun to read. Two characters that as we get to learn more about including how they tick you can see they go together like peanut butter and jelly, even though they're messy separately they are so good together.

Don't we sometimes think the cute ones are gay? Well it's an honest mistake this time and considering what she is commonly around it's nothing surprising to her. It's how these two go after their first encounter that things get interesting. There will be taming, but that won't be all.......

Quite a witty read!

Daisy was quite an entrepreneur and Raphael was just pure hilarious! from their first meeting to the end of one of her careers. That said, the writing wasn't as smooth, confusing and a bit disjointed in parts...because I really liked the issues raised and the storyline. Maybe it was the narration in itself???
